Polio drive: Police to provide foolproof security to workers in 2016

Police ensures extraordinary security 

arrangements during polio

KARACHI: The Inspector General of Police Sindh Ghulam Hyder Jamali has directed Additional Inspector General of Police Karachi as well as other senior officials in other districts of the province to provide comprehensive security cover to each and every polio worker engaged in the National Immunization Days campaign commencing on Monday. Chairing a meeting here Sunday he directed DIGs East West and South Zones of the metropolis to ensure extraordinary security cover to the teams under the direct supervision of concerned SSPs. He further instructed deployment of police commandos along with polio teams in all sensitive Union Councils’ areas in Karachi. On the occasion a report compiled by AIG Operations Ghayasuddin Rashidi was also shared, showing presence of an overall 4,600 police commando personnel drawn from SSU Rapid Response Force Sindh, Reserve Police, Counter Terrorism Department Sindh Crime Branch, Anti Encroachment Cell, Shaheed Benazirabad Elite Police, Training School Razaqabad and Police Training College Saeedabad RTC Hyderabad Jam Nawaz and PTC Shahdadpur during the three day NIDs. The personnel were said to perform security duties along with regular force of the police department in the metropolis. According to a Sindh Police spokesman, this has been done to provide foolproof security to health workers, doctors and other staff supplementing the polio workers’ teams, particularly, in UCs declared ‘sensitive’. Meanwhile, the IGP Sindh also directed that during this period there should be effective police patrolling besides snap and random checking at different points with strict vigil at entry and exit points along with intelligence sharing among all concerned agencies.
